AFL-CIO Government Affairs Director Bill Samuel rejoined the AWF Union Podcast today to provide an update on President Biden’s Build Back Better budget reconciliation bill, the new U.S. Supreme Court vacancy and the potential for voting laws to change. 

Amalgamated Transit Union Local 627 President and Business Agent Troy Miller made his debut on the podcast today. He spoke about how a sales tax increase passed last year provided the Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority with an additional $50 million in funding, which led to the best contract Local 627 has signed in years.

Insulators Union LMCT Executive Director Pete Ielmini was the first featured guest on the AWF Union Podcast today. He rejoined the podcast to discuss a tragic high-rise fire in NYC and how a properly working fire containment system, may have prevented the loss of 17 lives. 

 

International Brotherhood of Teamsters Legislative Representative Mike Dolan also joined the show today. He discussed  the Made in America Council,  the Advisory Committee on Supply Chain Competitiveness and offered a solution to help increase the number of truck drivers.

Ironworkers Local 44 Business Manager and Financial Secretary-Treasurer David Baker made his debut appearance on today’s edition of the AWF Union Podcast. He discussed how the process to obtain a welding certification is too easy, as even pets can get certified to weld. Baker also explained why the  Brent Spence Bridge needs to be repaired. 

Tom Buffenbarger, an Independent Labor Voice for America’s Work Force Union Podcast, was also a featured guest on the show today. He spoke about a potential strike by up to 17,000 unionfreight railway workers and gave an overlook of Joe Biden’s presidency after one year in office.

Regional Council of Carpenters Council Representative Jason Wheeler spoke about wage theft in the construction industry. He also talked about his Local’s ability to organize and issues with So-Called “Right to Work” in their jurisdiction. 

Transportation Trades Department of the AFL-CIO President Greg Regan was also featured on the podcast today. Regan discussed the Biden Administration delivering legislative victories for transportation labor unions and their workers, and America's largest transportation labor union coalition adding three new unions.

Alliance for Retired Americans Executive Director Rich Fiesta also joined the podcast today. He discussed how the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services ordered the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to reconsider the massive Medicare Part B premium hike. Fiesta also spoke about the No Surprises Act, which will protect consumers from surprise medical bills.

She spoke about her new article “There Is Something Very Wrong With a Society That Scapegoats Its Teachers” and explained why she believes there are orchestrated attacks occurring against teachers. 

United Steelworkers District 1 Sub-District Director Pat Gallagher was the second featured guest on the AWF podcast today. He discussed a renewed organizing attempt by the USW at a stainless steel plant in Alabama.

Also featured on the podcast today was Roofers and Waterproofers Local 37 Business Manager and Financial Secretary-Treasurer John Flatt. He discussed the commercial and industrial roofing industry in the greater Pittsburgh area and the Local 37 apprenticeship program.

American Federation of Government Employees District 5 National Fair Practices Affirmative Action Coordinator Ceretta Smith was also featured on today’s America’s Work Force Union Podcast. She discussed the need for more union members to run for elected office, how her city successfully raised the minimum wage to $15 and other political races in Georgia.
